Plumstead Road postmill stood just to the north of the Plumstead Road and just to the south of the prison. . From various paintings of the Norwich School, it seems likely that this was an open trestle mill.
The mill was later replaced by a towermill.

Wheras in the Night between the 10th and 11th Instant the Wind-mill in the Hamlet of Thorp by Norwich was broke open and stolen from thence a Sack of Flour which weighed about Twenty stone: and at the same Time out of the Pasture adjoining, a light coloured Sorrel Horse
