Green Cap Mill was so called by the colour it's cap had been painted. The above photo shows the mill after the 1905 fire with Press's High Mill in the background. |
The mill had an adjoining granary plus a pigeon loft, and when it caught fire it is reported that bystanders saw the poor pigeons flying from the burning mill with their wings on fire. |
