The postmill in Sandy Lane appears to have been worked by William Bitten from the time it was built c.1842 until he died in 1891.

No. 179 was the site of the mill but it was not mentioned for the tithe award. At this time William Bitten was living in a cottage in the town.

Mill House marked on the above map was not part of the Sandy Lane mill property but belonged to the earlier Newton Road postmill.
