Carlton Rode open trestle postmill was probably built in the 1700s. By the early 1800s a second postmill with a roundhouse had been built nearby on the same site. |
Jonathan Knights snr was the father of Jonathan Knights jnr, miller at Hevingham_smockmill, who was born c.1787. Jonathan Knights snr had married Phoebe Hinchley in Carleton Rode on 26th November 1786 and he died intestate in 1801. |
Notice to Creditors. John Knights, of Attleborough, in Norfolk, Miller and Baker, having assigned over his Effects to Jonathan Knights, of Carleton Rode, Miller, for the equal Benefit of his Creditors, the Creditors are requested to meet at the Cock in Attleborough, on Thursday the 24th of this Instant, April, at three o'Clock in the Afternoon, when the State of his Affairs will be laid before them, and the Assignment for the Execution. And all Persons who stand indebted to the said John Knights, are desired to pay the same forthwith to the said Jonathan Knights, or they will be sued for the same without further Notice. Also TWO WINDMILLS, in thorough repair near the aforesaid messuage, one of which has a large roundhouse. The situation of the above mills is equal to any in the county for an extensive trade.
