Richard Lansdelle Gaze - 1860 to 1868

Richard Lansdelle Gaze was the son of William_Gaze_snr. He was born in 1832 in Heigham and took over the business with his half brother William_jnr. after the death of their father at Wramplingham_mill. Much of his story can be found under the entry for his half brother William.


In the 1851 census, he was recorded as an upholsterer's clerk living with his parents in Back Lane, St. Saviour's.


In the 1861 census, he was recorded as a millwright living in Peacock Street, St. Saviour's with his wife (26), son Alfred (4) and daughter Kathleen (3 months).


Richard married Naomi Roberts on the 24th July 1855 in the Princes Street chapel. He was described as a Cabinet Maker's Assistant living in Post Office Street, St. John Maddermarket at the time of the marriage. Although the marriage was to produce many children, most of them died in childhood.
In 1857 Alfred Richard was born in Norwich.
In 1859 Herbert William was born in St. Saviour's, he died in 1860.
In 1861 Kathleen Naomi was born.
In 1862 another son, Herbert William, was born and died on the 17th  December that same year.

On Wednesday last, Herbert William, infant son or Mr. Richard Gaze, St. Saviour's, Norwich.

In 1864 Arthur Robert was born in St. Saviours, he died in 1865.
In 1866 Emily Hannah was born in Heigham.
In 1867 Adelaide was born in Heigham and she died in 1868.
Later that year, Ernest Robert was born in Heigham but died in 1869.
In 1870 Frederick William was born in Heigham and died later that year.
In 1872 Albert Edward was born in Heigham and died on the 8th September that year.
In 1874 Leonard Richard was born in Heigham and died later that year.
In January 1876, Florence Marie was born but died within days.
In 1879 Sidney Ernest was born in Heigham.


DIED

GAZE. - On the 8th inst., Albert Edward, son of Richard and Naomi Gaze, St. Benedict's road, in this city, aged 7 months.

GAZE. - On the 20th inst., Florence Marie, infant child of Richard L and Naomi Gaze, of Dereham-road, in this city.

In the 1871 census, Richard Gaze was recorded as a commercial clerk millwright living in Caledonian Terrace, Dereham Road, North Heigham with his wife Naomi (36), son Alfred R. (14), and daughters Kathleen W. (10) and Emily (5).


Richard L. Gaze was listed in Hamilton's Directory of 1879 as a fancy toy dealer in Magdalen Street.
In the 1881 census, he was given as living at 2, Caledonian Terrace, Dereham Road, Heigham with wife Naomi (46) and children Kathleen N. (20), Emily H. (15) and Sidney (2).
In White's directory of 1887, Richard Gaze was listed as a clerk at 2, Caledonian Terrace, Dereham Road.


Kathleen Gaze was married on the 23rd July 1885.


MARRIAGES

ALGAR - GAZE. - On the 23rd inst., at the Old Meeting Congregational Church, by the Rev. Hobson, Henry Howell, second son of Mr. Jabez Algar, of 58, Prince of Wales Road, in this city, to Kathleen Naomi, eldest daughter of Mr. Richard Lansdelle Gaze, of 41, Distillery Street, Heigham.

Sidney Ernest Gaze died on 27th August 1888.


DIED

GAZE. - On the 27th ult., Sidney Ernest, youngest child of Richard Lansdelle and Naomi Gaze, 41, Distillery-street, in this City, aged nine years.

Richard Lansdelle Gaze died in 1896 and was buried in the Rosary Cemetery.
